UTFA’s 2025-2026 Annual Report & Reminder to Register for the AGM
Dear Colleagues,
We are writing to encourage you to read UTFA’s 2025-2026 Annual Report (formerly the AGM Newsletter), now live here. As always, it documents UTFA’s key achievements and highlights major priorities for future work. Even if you cannot attend UTFA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), we strongly recommend that you read it.
Please be reminded that UTFA’s AGM will take place at the OISE Auditorium (hybrid) on Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. All UTFA members are eligible and encouraged to attend; nearly 350 members have registered to date! Please remember to register with your U of T email address.
Agenda highlights include:
-
Feature Panel: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Changing Nature of our Work as Faculty and Librarians at the University of Toronto U of T is a key site of innovation and debate surrounding the emergent technology of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This conversation will explore how AI currently shapes our work as faculty and librarians and how we might work collectively to shape its future impacts.
-
Issues arising from the increase in PhD Funding. We unpack the implications of the new and hastily implemented PhD funding policy, in which the central administration has offloaded responsibility for a significant increase in PhD funding to departments and individual faculty. This change has had impacts on our teaching and supervision, research, and service. Hear highlights from our recent graduate funding survey. The discussion will focus on short-term issues as well as strategizing for the longer term.
-
Highlights from the Salary, Benefits, and Workload Bargaining Table. Hear up-to-the-minute updates from your Co-chief Negotiators on the 2026-2027 round, including our mandate to: raise minimum salaries while securing across-the-board salary increases that restore inflationary erosion; improve physical and mental health benefits; challenge unreasonable workloads; and resist the Administration’s austerity agenda.
Note that you can suggest questions in advance when you register, or after you register via faculty@utfa.org.
We look forward to seeing you at the AGM on Thursday!
Best wishes,
The UTFA Executive
