Student Strike on November 5, 2026

October 16, 2026

Dear Colleagues,

As you may be aware, on November 5, 2026, undergraduate students affiliated with Students Against Austerity will hold a one-day strike, ratified by the Canadian Federation of Students–Ontario.

UTFA also stands in opposition to the OSAP cuts which impose significant financial burdens on our undergraduate students. These cuts are especially devastating in the context of long term underfunding of post secondary education in Ontario.

Students may approach you to request accommodations for term work in light of their decision to participate in the day of action. Please note that this is not a legal strike under the Ontario Labour Relations Act. Accordingly, faculty members and librarians are expected to perform their regular duties on November 5, unless they have safety concerns.

If a safety concern prevents you from entering your building or performing your duties, please move to a safe location nearby and contact your unit head (Chair or Director) or supervisor, as well as Campus Safety in urgent cases at 416-978-2222.

Faculty members and librarians who wish to provide students with the opportunity to participate in the day of action may, subject to applicable policies and procedures, adjust their course activities, assignments, grading requirements, or other professional practices accordingly.

Thank you for your consideration regarding this matter.

Sincerely,

Jun Nogami

UTFA President
