The University of Toronto Faculty Association wishes to extend its sincerest appreciation to Professor Jeffrey Ansloos, Assistant Professor, Indigenous Mental Health and Social Policy, OISE, for his recent presentation, Canadian Universities and the TRC Calls to Action, to UTFA members at our Annual General Meeting.

Professor Ansloos presented a very informative, thought provoking, critical and personalized discussion of the impact of European colonization and the Canadian government’s failure to live up to treaty obligations on Indigenous peoples in Canada. As Professor Ansloos and other Indigenous scholars, elders, and leaders have noted, “Truth comes before reconciliation.” In the spirit of this statement, and as Professor Ansloos has urged, we encourage all UTFA members to read the original report of the calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action, to reference these materials in your teaching and scholarship, and to disseminate this report to your networks. You can also read the Final Report of the Steering Committee for the U of T Response to the Truth & Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
