June 14, 2023

Dear colleagues,

UTFA is supporting an urgent donation drive organized by the Sudanese community in Toronto. As you will know, war broke out in Sudan on April 15, 2023. Early news stories focused on Canadian citizens ‘caught’ in the conflict, trying to get back to Canada; since then, little has been reported. However, the war has led some 200,000 Sudanese to leave the country, many coming to Canada with nothing.

The Sudanese community in Canada, as well as the Sudanese Community Association of Ontario, has been providing support, and have put out a community call for donations of these urgently needed items:

  • Adult and children’s clothing (gently used)
  • Blankets
  • Toiletries and personal care essentials (toothpaste, lotions, shampoo, menstrual supplies, etc)
  • Baby items (diapers, wipes, bottles, etc)
  • Toys
  • Cleaning items
  • Gift cards (Shoppers Drug Mart, Amazon, Home Depot, grocery stores)
  • Health supplies (cough syrup, band aids, first aid kits)

The OCAD Faculty Association has organized a drop-off location on the OCAD campus at 100 McCaul St. Room 352 (INTM Sign-Out), 416 977 6000 ex 243.

They can receive donations on these days and times:
